The Clinical Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care to support a unit or facility as directed by a Registered Nurse (RN). Support responsibilities may include facilitation of patient safety and environmental support activities.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Participates as a member of the patient care delivery team by collection of basic laboratory specimens and two hour troponins, collects legal alcohol specimens, performs EKG’s and 2 hour EKG’s with troponins, assists with lifting and transporting, performs vital signs, clean and bandage wounds, splinting to fractures and other duties as delegated by the nursing staff within scope of training.
Transport patients to testing.
Perform CPR on full arrests as members of the code team.
Follows all policies and procedures in the collection of laboratory samples and in the performance of EKG’s, in an accurate and timely fashion.
Collects quality samples according to laboratory policies and procedures (for the accurate and timely completion of testing).
Orders tests and places calls as needed according to policy and procedure.
Assists with medical record keeping processes, order entry, phone management.
Assists nursing staff in addressing patient care needs, rounding frequently and ensuring that environment is conducive to care.
Functions in reception of patients and families to the unit in the triage and treatment areas.
Communicates and updates patients and families on a regular basis while they are waiting for treatment, tests, or disposition through collaboration with the primary/charge/triage nurse, therapy, and other supportive staff.
Assists in keeping department clean and orderly, as well as keeping the department stocked with supplies.
Assists with maintenance of equipment and prevention of waste.
Maintains a safe and effective work environment.
Maintains all required competencies, including MID, use of SMART equipment, gait belts, and interdepartmental communication requirements.
