Job summary

Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is seeking a Medical Assistant/EMT/LPN to support the Medical Services clinic at Min No Aya Win Human Services Center & Center for American Indian Resources. You will greet patients, take vitals, prepare for exam, and document findings for the provider.

Responsibilities include charting, assisting providers, injections, wound care, EKGs, tests, and maintaining supplies and sterility.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Medical Assistant, EMT, or LPN training program is required.
  • Current licensure as LPN or certification as EMT or MA required for duration of employment.
  • BLS for Health Care Providers required and maintained during employment.
  • One year of clinic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Word, databases, spreadsheets, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, obtain chief complaint, take vital signs, and prep for exam.
  • Chart information following proper charting procedures and inform provider when ready.
  • Assist providers as requested and maintain patient flow.
  • Perform injections, wound care, admin meds per safeguards, and assist in procedures.
  • Perform EKGs, hearing/vision tests, foot exams, ear lavages, and related tasks.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment sterilization, and inventory; assist Laboratory Technologist as needed.

Division/Department: Human Services – Medical ServicesLocation: Min No Aya Win Human Services Center & Center for American Indian Resources - OnsiteReports To: Medical Clinic Registered Nurse ManagerProbationary Period: 90 days – Full time, 120 days – Part timeFLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)Classification: Child-Related CADriver’s License: Level 0- No Driver's License Required.Wage: $22.34 to $25.13 hourlyBonus: $2,500 w/2-year commitmentResponsibilities: Greet each patient, obtain chief complaint, vital signs, and prepares patient for exam.Chart all information following proper charting procedures.Inform appropriate provider when patient is ready to be seen.Assist primary providers as requested.Maintain optimum patient flow by ensuring that patients are prepared in a timely manner.Alert providers to any problems.Perform clinical tasks under direction of provider such as therapeutic injections, wound care/dressing changes, administrating prescribed medication following medication administration safeguards and assisting in clinical procedures.Perform EKG’s, hearing and vision tests, diabetic foot exams, ear lavages, and any other tasks as requested.Use and maintain an adequate supply inventory.Maintain exam room supplies according to established minimum inventory. Clean and replenish supplies in all rooms at the start of each clinic day, between patient visits, and/ or at the end of the day.Clean and sterilize all instruments after each use. Maintain sterilizer and do routine quality control. Keep track of expiration dates of sterilized equipment and re-sterilize as needed.Assist the Laboratory Technologist as needed.Obtain patient charts when requested by primary providers and when a call is waiting concerning a specific patient.Make appointments for referrals, primary provider will supply a completed referral form. Call the appropriate clinic/hospital and make the appointment. Inform the patient of same and ensure that the patient has his/her copy of the referral form.Serve on CQI committees as assigned.Appropriate/Professional work attire is required.Must attend all mandatory department trainings.Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.Maintains a clean and organized work area.Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.Qualifications: No Driver's License Required.Graduate of Medical Assistant, EMT, or LPN training program is required.Current licensure as LPN or certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Medical Assistant (MA) is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers is required and must be maintained throughout employment.One-year experience in a clinic setting is preferred.Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, data bases and/or data entry, Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook is required.Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.Attention to detail and accuracy is required.Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Normal physical requirements.T he Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Nagaajiwanaang ( Where the water stops ), is one of the six Bands of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and a proud sovereign Ojibwe nation.
