Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Registered Nurse to support patient-centered care by aiding physicians and mid-level providers in all facets of patient care. The RN will apply the nursing process during clinic visits, telephone, and electronic communications to deliver knowledgeable, compassionate care to patients and their families.

The role involves preparing exam rooms, taking vitals, administering injections and labs, providing patient education, and ensuring proper discharge with follow-up

Qualifications

• One year experience in medical office preferred.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Iowa required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing prior to the visit.
• Rooms and prepares the patient for examination, reviews histories, allergies, medications, reason for visit and taking vitals.
• Orders/administers injections, orders/collects specimens for lab testing and performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Provides patient instruction using pre-approved materials for chief complaint or health promotion.
• Prints after visit summary and completes discharge including scheduling follow-ups or tests.
• Manages patient calls regarding test results and provides treatment instructions as directed by the provider.
• Processes medication requests/changes/refills per established protocols, including knowledge of medications.
• Assists with diagnostic procedures (EKG, Nebulizer) and treatments as directed.
• Manages sample medication per policy and maintains inventory.
• Collects and documents urine drug screens per regulations.
• Follows Mercy safety guidelines and reports unsafe conditions.
