Job Summary

Participates in the operational, clinical and administrative oversight of the pharmacy department.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Processes patient prescriptions and manages daily pharmacy operations.
   1. Interprets, packs, labels and dispenses prescriptions; administers and distributes drugs.
   2. Assists patients at prescription drop off and pick up areas and disburses completed and confirmed prescriptions to patients.
   3. Assists with staff training.
   4. Ensures all payments, including cash, check and credit card, are reconciledand submitted to the finance department.
   5. Coordinates maintenance of pharmacy environment, including cleanliness and neatness.
2. Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient care.
   1. Provides education on 340B pharmacy services.
   2. Represents the pharmacy in meetings when needed.
   3. Collaborates with practitioners to provide consults on drug information and patient education.
   4. Assists practitioners in assessing patient information for the correct medication orders in consideration of patient’s health status.
   5. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in internal in-service meetings and continuing education programs.
   6. Provides updates, training and recommendations to clinicians during practitioner meetings.
3. Supports administrative supervision of the pharmacy department.
   1. Assists with the purchase of all drugs, supplies and pharmaceuticals used in the pharmacy.
   2. Maintains relationships with external stakeholders and vendors.
   3. Maintains current knowledge of and participates in inventory processes, including ordering, inventory returns, restocking shelves with proper rotation of items, and managing outdated medications.
   4. Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for pharmacy practice and operations, (i.e., 340B program, NC Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, Medicaid, etc.)
   5. Maintains compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures and knowledge ofchanges in laws, regulations and accreditation standards.
4. Participates in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement (QI) projects.
   1. Reads emails and other platforms of communication within the organization.
   2. Complies with Clinical Quality Measures expectations.
   3. Uses resources to verify standards of care.
   4. Modifies workflows as determined by department to attain QI objectives.
   5. Consistently documents activities related to QI projects.
5. Provides management to department staff in absence of pharmacy manager.
   1. Determines the most effective method for assigning responsibilities and duties to department employees.
   2. Assigns duties and responsibilities, and ensures employees receive instruction/training needed to complete their job responsibilities.
   3. Ensures that employees are aware of and adhere to all company policies and procedures and conveys all senior management communications and directives.
   4. Reviews departmental work for thoroughness and accuracy and provides specific instructions to supervisors and employees on completion of tasks/responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy. Current licensure as a Pharmacist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Current BLS certification.

Possesses knowledge of the 340B program, state, federal and third-party regulations relating to pharmacy operations.
