MercyOne Family Practice Clinic in Waterloo, part of Trinity Health, seeks a Lab Assistant to support multiple lab departments by assisting staff with collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment. You will perform venipunctures and specimen handling, maintain LIS entries, ensure patient identification, and follow safety and quality standards.

Mansioni

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as appropriate for age and ensures proper specimen collection.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions and manages add-ons and pending lists per procedures.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels containers accurately.
• Registers and logs specimens in LIS, evaluates adequacy, and scans documents into patient records.
• Performs specimen processing including identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, slide prep and handling.
• Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
• Follows safety, infection control, and chemical-handling procedures and supports workflow efficiency.
• Operates LIS to support data entry and workflow management.
• Contributes to general lab operations by restocking supplies and participating in team activities.
