Job summary

VCU Dental Care is seeking a Clinic Dispensing Assistant (CDA) to support IMS operations by dispensing, receiving, tracking, maintaining, and sterilizing clinical instruments and supplies. You will help ensure instrument readiness, inventory accuracy, and smooth clinical workflows across patient care activities.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred experience in dental/medical settings or instrument tracking systems.

Chief Purpose of the Position:

The Clinic Dispensing Assistant (CDA)

Supports IMS operations through the dispensing, receiving, tracking, maintenance, and sterilization preparation of clinical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Supports inventory accuracy, equipment readiness, and operational needs for clinical, laboratory, simulation, and patient care activities.

• Provides professional customer service and works effectively with staff and clinical areas.
• Maintains accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when handling instruments, equipment, and inventory.
• Uses computer, scanning, and inventory tracking systems effectively.
• Prioritizes multiple tasks and works independently and as part of a team.
• Maintains reliable attendance and follows established procedures.
• Able to lift 20–50 pounds and perform work requiring extended standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred

• Dental, medical, sterilization, clinical support, or inventory experience.
• Knowledge of dental instruments and equipment or instrument tracking systems.
• Experience in an academic healthcare environment.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 20–50 pounds as required
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
• Ability to perform repetitive hand motions throughout the shift
• Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed
• Ability to manipulate small instruments and equipment components
• Exposure to noise, heat, and environmental conditions associated with sterilization processes

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience
