Job summary

Rainforest Action Network (RAN) is seeking a motivated Organizer to support its Organizing Program across New York and the Northeast. You will apply strong organizational skills and strategic coordination to accelerate a transition to clean energy production.

This position is a 40-hour-per-week role reporting to the Director of the Organizing Program, with opportunities to train volunteers, work with Indigenous communities, and build diverse coalitions.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years' on-the-ground organizing experience in environmental or social justice issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities.
• Solid organizational, time management and project management skills.
• Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced campaign environment.
• Commitment to climate protection, corporate campaigning, racial justice and equity.
• Understanding of non-violent direct action as strategy and tactic.
• Ability to travel regularly and work under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Support strategies in New York and the Northeast to keep fossil fuels in the ground and forests standing.
• Maintain an active national network with activist groups and allies.
• Broaden organizing into diverse constituencies including Indigenous communities.
• Develop and train new volunteer leaders, especially from communities of color.
• Execute agreed campaign activities and assist in strategy development.
• Conduct research to inform strategy and campaigns.
• Create and use tools to communicate with target audiences and achieve objectives.
• Draft communications and advocacy materials for email and social media.
• Represent RAN at events and act as a public spokesperson; train activists in non-violent direct action and media skills.
• Collaborate with teams and participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Share responsibilities to maintain a healthy and safe workplace.
