Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a part-time Cleaning Ambassador to keep public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. The role involves high-visibility street-level cleaning, engaging with pedestrians, litter removal, weed pulling, and maintaining outdoor surfaces in the assigned zone.

Weekly pay at $18.00 per hour with pay advances, great benefits, PTO, free uniforms, and support programs. Weekend availability is required, and a valid driver’s license is preferred to support mobility between zones.

Responsibilities

• This role provides high visibility at street level to perform a variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with friendly greetings to provide directions and city information.
• Litter removal and graffiti/poster removal from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds at base of tree wells, cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks in English.

What You’ll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal — While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
