Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador to improve public spaces by keeping streets and sidewalks clean, safe, and friendly. The role emphasizes high visibility at street level, outdoor work, and positive interactions with the community.

The position requires weekend availability, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work outdoors in all conditions. Training is provided and benefits include weekly pay and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Experience is preferred but not required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning tasks in assigned zones with a positive, professional demeanor.
• Engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and provide directions or city information.
• Remove litter and graffiti from streets, sidewalks, and public spaces.
• Weed base of tree wells and cracks; damp wipe outdoor surfaces.
• Monitor for unsafe activity and report to Safety Ambassadors; complete basic daily task reports.

What You'll Be Doing :

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements:

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
