Job summary

Block by Block in Alabama is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador to maintain public spaces, greet pedestrians, and perform a variety of cleanup tasks in assigned zones.

The role requires weekend and holiday availability, outdoor work in all weather, and the ability to speak, read, and write English for basic reports. Training is provided, and uniforms are free.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred, but not required; training provided.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to walk/stand for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions; uniforms provided.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English for basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting.
• Remove litter and graffiti from streets and public spaces.
• Pull weeds from tree wells and sidewalks.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces; report safety concerns.

Job Title: Cleaning Ambassador

Pay Range: $17.50 to $17.50 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

Shift/Schedule:

• 7:00am to 3:30pm


• Weekend and Holiday availability REQUIRED

What You'll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.


• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.


• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.


• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.


• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.


• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
