Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Cleaning Ambassador in the United States. The role offers weekly pay and a night-shift schedule from Wednesday to Sunday, 1:00pm–9:30pm, with outdoor work and mandatory English-language reporting.

You will engage with the public, perform litter removal, weed pulling, graffiti removal, and maintain cleanliness in assigned zones while staying safety-conscious and professional.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• This role provides a high level of visibility at street level, carrying out a variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting and provide directions or city information.
• Litter removal and graffiti/poster removal from public spaces and fixtures.
• Pull weeds at tree wells, cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces like trash can lids and news boxes.
• Report safety concerns to Safety Ambassadors and complete daily task reports in English.

What You'll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
