Job summary

American University is seeking a Marketing Student Coordinator to support promotion of CLCE programs and events. The part-time 4-hour weekly role includes creating digital and print communications and maintaining visible, engaging CLCE content for the AU community.

The position offers a hybrid schedule with both in-office and remote work, flexible hours around academics, and a weekly supervisor check-in plus a monthly team meeting. Current AU students only.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at American University.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook) and interest in content creation.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design tools.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, creative, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Familiar with marketing and/or communications plan.
  • Interest in leadership development, community engagement, and civic engagement is a plus.

Summary

The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Marketing Student Coordinator to support the promotion of programs, events, and initiatives that connect leadership development and community engagement at American University. The Marketing Student Coordinator will assist with digital and print communications, ensuring CLCE’s work is visible and engaging to the AU community. This is a part-time student position (4 hours per week) with a hybrid schedule that includes both in-office and remote work. Hours are flexible around the student’s academic schedule. The position includes a weekly check-in with the supervisor and a monthly meeting with the CLCE team.

Essential Functions
  • 1.) Newsletter Development Draft, design, and distribute CLCE’s monthly newsletter. Collect stories, highlights, and updates from staff and student leaders to showcase impact.
  • 2.) Social Media Content Create engaging and inclusive social media content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and Facebook. Develop a content calendar and monitor analytics to increase reach and engagement.
  • 3.) Graphic Design & Promotion Design flyers, graphics, and promotional materials for CLCE programs and events. Maintain visual branding consistency across all platforms and materials.
  • 4.) Event Marketing Support outreach strategies to promote events across campus (tabling, digital boards, etc.). Capture photos and videos during programs to use in marketing and storytelling efforts.
  • 5.) Engage & GivePulse Updates Update the CLCE Engage page and GivePulse platform with current program information. Ensure event descriptions and community engagement opportunities are accurate and visually engaging.
  • 6.) Creative Storytelling Highlight student and community partner stories through digital spotlights, testimonials, and features. Brainstorm innovative ways to share CLCE’s impact with the AU community.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

Part-time. 4 hours per week.

Salary Range

$1,200.00 stipend per semester.

Required Education and Experience
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at American University.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • 1.) Professional Development Benefits Hands-on experience in marketing and communications within a higher education setting. Practical skills in digital storytelling, design, and content strategy. Professional growth in leadership, teamwork, and project management. Networking opportunities with campus leaders, community partners, and peers engaged in civic and community work. A portfolio of work (social media campaigns, newsletters, graphic design) to showcase in future internships and job applications.
  • 2.) Work Schedule & Compensation Hours: 4 hours per week, flexible scheduling around academic commitments. Location: Hybrid (in-office + remote). Meetings: Weekly supervisor meeting, monthly team meeting. Stipend: $1,200 a semester (this semester $800 due to start time).
