Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking an instructional assistant to support teachers and students in a busy classroom environment. You will provide small group instruction, assist with materials and clerical tasks, and help supervise students on and off the bus.

The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers, strong communication, and the ability to follow instructions while maintaining a safe, respectful classroom. Willingness to complete background checks and certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor.
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers with duties, including providing small group instruction/skills practice as directed by the teacher.
• Assists students with skills; one-to-one, small group, or whole class support.
• Prepares and reproduces classroom materials; assists with bulletin boards and displays.
• Assists students on and off the school bus; supervises students.
• Assists in classrooms and office as assigned and as needed.
• Provides clerical assistance – including typing, filing, maintaining records, attendance, ordering supplies and materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
