Job summary

Salt Lake City School District invites applications for a School Support Assistant who will help supervise students and perform clerical tasks in support of classroom instruction. The role may include substitute teaching duties in emergencies.

The position is part-time (FTE 0.7375), up to 29.5 hours per week, with a starting wage of $17.50 hourly and non-contract status. Work includes preparing materials, recording attendance, and assisting teachers with lessons and routine operations.

Qualifications

• Fingerprinting and criminal background check required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPR/First Aid certification within six months of hire
• Ability to perform basic math, including fractions, percentages, and ratios
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities; development stages; classroom management; lesson planning; time management
• Ability to operate standard office equipment

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom work under teacher direction to support lesson plans
• Administer tests and evaluations under supervision and monitor student progress
• Support learning plans and behavior plans to meet IEP goals
• Collaborate with teachers to evaluate progress and implement objectives
• Lead small groups and support in various settings to maintain a positive learning environment
• Supervise students in classrooms, library, playground, lunch and field trips
• Prepare teaching materials and maintain attendance and records
• Report incidents to ensure student safety
• Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with staff and stakeholders
• Participate in meetings and coordinating activities
