Job summary

York County Community Action Corp. (YCCAC) is seeking Qualified Classroom Substitutes to support Head Start classrooms on an as-needed basis in York County. This role is ideal for early childhood professionals who value flexibility, teamwork, and helping young children thrive during the school day.

As a Classroom Substitute, you’ll help ensure continuity of care, maintain safe environments, and support children with activities, meals, and routines across multiple classrooms and sites.

Qualifications

• Infant/Toddler or Preschool CDA is required.
• Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• 3+ years of center-based early childhood experience preferred.
• Must pass background checks, physical exam, and Head Start requirements.
• Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom staff in delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences.
• Actively supervise and interact with children to ensure safety and well-being.
• Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and behavior guidance strategies.
• Assist with meals, family-style dining, and daily care routines.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
• Work collaboratively with teaching teams and center staff.
• Support children with special needs by following IFSPs/IEPs (when applicable).
