Job summary

York County Community Action Corp. (YCCAC) is seeking Qualified Classroom Substitutes to support Head Start classrooms on an as-needed basis. The role offers flexible, as-needed scheduling and the chance to work across multiple sites while contributing to children’s safety and development.

Ideal candidates have a CDA (Infant/Toddler or Preschool) and experience in early childhood settings. You will support routines, meals, and family involvement, collaborating with teaching teams.

Qualifications

• Required: Infant/Toddler or Preschool CDA.
• Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• 3+ years of center-based early childhood experience.
• Must pass background checks and Head Start requirements.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Support classroom staff in delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences
• Actively supervise and interact with children to ensure safety and well-being
• Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and behavior guidance strategies
• Assist with meals, family-style dining, and daily care routines
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment
• Work collaboratively with teaching teams and center staff
• Support children with special needs by following IFSPs/IEPs

As a Classroom Substitute, you’ll step in to ensure continuity of care, maintain safe and nurturing environments, and help children thrive during their school day.

Your Role

Qualifications:

• Reliable, punctual, and adaptable in fast‑paced environments
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, stand, and move throughout the day
• Must pass background checks, physical exam, and meet Head Start requirements
• Reliable transportation required
