Job summary

Swhra in Tennessee is seeking a Head Start Classroom Aide to support a preschool classroom of up to 20 children. This role assists the Head Start Teacher and ensures program policies are followed.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, and the Child Development Associate Credential is preferred. Applicants must pass required health and background screenings; training and experience with preschoolers are valued; applications accepted until Oct 31, 2026.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Child Development Associate Credential preferred.
• Experience or training with preschool children is desirable.
• Willing to continue education.
• Must pass physical exam, TB screen, drug screen, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in a preschool classroom of up to 20 children.
• Serve as Teacher Assistant in absence of regular Teacher Assistant.
• Make home visits.
• Encourage parent involvement.

Purpose

The Head Start Classroom Aide is responsible for the day to day activities necessary for operation of a pre-school type classroom while ensuring program policies and procedures are being met. This position is accountable to the Early Childhood Development Manager.

Job Duties

• Assist Head Start Teacher in carrying out a program of instruction for a pre-school classroom of up to 20 children
• serve as Teacher Assistant in absence of regular Teacher Assistant
• make home visits
• encourage parent involvement
• work with other staff concerning enrollment and meeting the needs of families

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Child Development Associate Credential preferred
• Experience/training in working with preschool children desired
• must be willing to continue education
• Must pass physical exam, TB screen, drug screen, and criminal/fingerprint background check
