Job summary

Southwest Head Start is seeking a Classroom Aide to support a preschool classroom of up to 20 children and assist the Head Start Teacher in delivering a structured program.

You will help implement instructional activities, ensure policies are followed, and provide a safe, engaging learning environment. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with a CDA preferred, and willingness to pursue further education. Background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Child Development Associate Credential preferred.
• Experience/training with preschool children desired.
• Must be willing to continue education.
• Must pass background checks (physical exam, TB, drug screen, fingerprint).

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in a preschool classroom of up to 20 children.
• Serve as Teacher Assistant in absence of regular staff.
• Make home visits.
• Encourage parent involvement.
• Collaborate with staff on enrollment and family needs.

Purpose

The Head Start Classroom Aide is responsible for the day to day activities necessary for operation of a pre-school type classroom while ensuring program policies and procedures are being met. This position is accountable to the Early Childhood Development Manager.

Job Duties Include:

• Assist Head Start Teacher in carrying out a program of instruction for a pre-school classroom of up to 20 children
• serve as Teacher Assistant in absence of regular Teacher Assistant
• make home visits
• encourage parent involvement
• and work with other staff concerning enrollment and meeting the needs of families.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• a Child Development Associate Credential preferred
• Experience/training in working with preschool children desired
• must be willing to continue education
• Must pass physical exam, TB screen, drug screen, and criminal/fingerprint background check.
