Job summary

The State of Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a Classification & Compensation Supervisor to serve as the agency's HR subject matter expert in classification and compensation.

This full-time role in Olympia provides hybrid work, guiding supervisors on position descriptions, reallocation, FLSA considerations, and worker regulations while supporting WMS positions and leadership development.

Qualifications

• Combination of education and experience may substitute for the education requirement.
• Must meet one of the options listed: four years HR experience with specified areas; bachelor's degree; two years as HR Consultant 3.
• Competencies include knowledge of HR programs, laws, and strong communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to supervisors when developing or changing position descriptions in line with laws and policies.
• Review and analyze reallocation requests; write determination letters and coordinate with program directors.
• Consult on compensation, including determining overtime eligibility under FLSA.
• Prepare new or revised WMS positions for Evaluation Committee review.
• Supervise and mentor a professional HR staff member.
• Work is performed in an office environment; travel may be required across the state.
• Typical schedule Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; occasional evenings/weekends.
