Job summary

Jackson College seeks an English Adjunct Instructor with substantial experience in classical education to support the development and delivery of English courses within the College’s Classical Curriculum pathway. The successful candidate will shape course content, lead discussions, and guide students through primary texts in a college setting on the Jackson, Michigan campus.

The role is part-time with in-person needs at the central campus.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated professional experience teaching or developing a Classical Curriculum or comparable classical humanities course.
• Ability to explain and apply classical instructional methods, including primary-text analysis and rhetoric.
• Ability to teach college-level English and assess student learning against outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned English courses using a classical approach to literature, composition, rhetoric, and inquiry.
• Collaborate with English faculty to design and implement classical course content and assessments.
• Guide students through sustained close reading of Western classical texts in context.
• Use seminar-style dialogue and Socratic questioning to strengthen reasoning and writing.
• Teach clear, evidence-based analytical and persuasive writing with proper source documentation.
• Evaluate student learning and provide timely feedback aligned with outcomes.
• Create an inclusive, rigorous classroom climate and connect students to campus resources.
• Coordinate with faculty to ensure courses fit the Classical Curriculum pathway.
• Maintain records, submit grades and comply with policies and deadlines.
