Job summary

Turo is seeking an SIU Investigator to join the Claims Special Investigations Unit in Phoenix. You will investigate suspected fraud and misrepresentation, review evidence, interview involved parties, and document findings to support protection decisions.

The role requires 3+ years in relevant fields, strong investigative and analytical skills, and knowledge of regulatory requirements. This position offers a hybrid in-office schedule three days a week with a base salary range of $70,000–$80,000,

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in insurance claims, special investigations, fraud investigations, or related fields.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with evidence-based conclusions.
  • Knowledge of insurance claims, fraud indicators, investigative methods, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to identify organized fraud and misrepresented claims and preserve evidence.

Job description

About the team The Claims Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Investigator investigates potentially fraudulent, suspicious, or misrepresented claims to reduce financial loss and protect the integrity of Turo’s marketplace. This position evaluates evidence, identifies fraud patterns, and provides findings that support claim, protection, recovery, and account action decisions.

What you will do
  • Investigate claims involving suspected fraud, material misrepresentation, policy violations, organized activity, or significant financial exposure.
  • Review claim files, supporting documents, damage evidence, account activity, and other available information to determine whether a claim is eligible for protection.
  • Conduct interviews and gather evidence from hosts, guests, repair facilities, vendors, witnesses, and other relevant parties.
  • Document investigative findings and maintain complete, accurate, and timely claim file records.
  • Analyze claims and account data to identify patterns, connections, repeat behaviors, suspicious repair facilities, organized fraud networks, and emerging fraud trends.
  • Refer appropriate matters for expanded investigation, account action, recovery, or criminal investigation.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), law enforcement agencies, state fraud bureaus, industry organizations, and other external investigative partners.
  • Prepare referrals, respond to requests for information, and coordinate on matters involving suspected criminal activity or organized fraud.
  • Partner with Claims, Trust and Safety, Legal, Risk, Estimatics, Total Loss, and other internal teams to provide investigative findings and recommendations that support claim decisions, financial loss prevention, recoveries, and marketplace protections.
  • Prepare investigative reports, track prevented and recovered losses, and present significant findings to leadership.
Your profile
  • 3+ years of experience in insurance claims, special investigations, fraud investigations, law enforcement, risk management, or a related field.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem solving skills, including the ability to evaluate complex information, identify inconsistencies, and reach evidence based conclusions.
  • Knowledge of insurance claims, fraud indicators, investigative methods, evidence preservation, and applicable regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to identify organized fraud, staged losses, material misrepresentation, document manipulation, and suspicious behavioral or financial patterns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to conduct interviews, prepare investigative reports, and clearly communicate findings.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with NICB, law enforcement agencies, state fraud bureaus, vendors, and other industry partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple investigations and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal business partners and provide clear, evidence based recommendations.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, claims management systems, fraud detection tools, public record databases, or related software.
  • Demonstrates Turo’s operating principles through work product and within day to day team interactions.
  • Bonus if you have Experience investigating auto physical damage, total loss, theft, staged losses, document manipulation, repair facility fraud, or organized fraud.
  • Experience working with NICB, law enforcement agencies, state fraud bureaus, or other industry investigative organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business, insurance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Professional designation or certification such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI), Fraud Claims Law Specialist (FCLS), or a comparable credential.
Salary and Compensation

For this role, the target base salary range in Phoenix is $70,000 - $80,000 annually.

This role is also eligible for equity and benefits.

In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
