Job Description

Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association is looking for a Claims Operations and Services Supervisor to join our Claims Department. We offer an excellent benefits package, a matching 401(k) program, and are conveniently located in Government Center.

This position is responsible for supervising the Claims Services staff, including coordinating and delegating work assignments, monitoring volume, and providing assistance and direction to TPAs, third-party vendors, independent adjusters, and other personnel within the Association. The supervisor will also participate in the planning and implementation of all Claims Department functions, operations, and services, in consultation with the Claims Manager(s) and the Vice President of Claims.

Job Requirements:

This role requires a college degree or five or more years of claims or underwriting experience, along with completion of related insurance courses. Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, good judgment in stressful situations, and the ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities are essential. Experience in underwriting and/or claims practices is necessary, along with the ability to learn new systems and products as they become available.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize the Claims Administration Unit, including staff development and training.
  • Interview prospective employees for the Claims Administration Unit.
  • Train and develop staff on Claims Department procedures and systems.
  • Manage attendance records, including electronic time cards and leave requests.
  • Conduct employee performance appraisals and recommend salary adjustments.
  • Handle disciplinary proceedings following established guidelines.
  • Delegate and coordinate workflow for claims processing.
  • Supervise quality control systems for claims handling and data processing.
  • Coordinate claim files within the ImageRight system, ensuring accurate filing and system interface management.
  • Provide support via phone and email to adjusters, agents, brokers, and insureds.
  • Order supplies for the Claims Department.
  • Assist in semi-annual Claims Department Reserve Audit.
  • Monitor after-hours escalated claim assignments from the Call Center.
  • Collaborate with Financial and IS Departments on system testing and enhancements.
  • Participate in catastrophe and business continuity planning and testing.
  • Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews and recommend salary increases.
  • Develop educational programs and tutorials on Claims Systems for various stakeholders.
  • Ensure seamless intra-departmental collaboration on claims handling.
  • Develop and review workflows and procedures.
  • Maintain records of CAT statistics and supporting documentation.
  • Review and edit workflow documentation.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
