Under the direction of the Claims Team Leader, you will investigate and settle claims promptly and equitably, following established guidelines. Duties include receiving assignments, reviewing policy information, interviewing claimants and witnesses, determining liability, preparing reports, setting reserves, and coordinating with attorneys as needed to close claims efficiently while maintaining strong customer relations.

Responsibilities

• Receive assignments.
• Reviews claim and policy information to provide background for investigation and may determine the extent of the policy’s obligation to the insured depending on the line of business.
• Contacts, interviews and obtains statements from insureds, claimants, witnesses, physicians, attorneys, police officers, etc. to secure necessary claim information.
• Depending on line of business may inspect and appraise damage for property losses or arranges for such appraisal.
• Evaluates facts to determine extent of liability and extent of company’s obligation under the policy.
• Prepares reports on investigation, settlements, denials of claims and related evaluations.
• Sets reserves within authority limits and recommends reserve changes to Team Leader.
• Reviews progress and status of claims with Team Leader and discusses remedial actions.
• Prepares and submits to Team Leader unusual exposures; assists in developing methods for handling claims.
• Settles claims promptly and equitably.
• Obtains releases, proofs of loss or compensation agreements and issues drafts in payments for claims.
• Informs claimants or insureds of denial when applicable.
• May assist in preparing cases for trial by arranging for attendance of witnesses and taking statements.
• Refers claims to subrogation when appropriate; may arrange for salvage or other recovery proceedings.
• Participates in claim file reviews and audits; maintains control of resolution process; maintains strong customer relations.
• Maintaining system logs

• Managing vocational rehabilitation
