You will assign work, delegate authority with senior staff, mentor subordinates, and participate in HR processes including evaluations and staffing. The role requires strong judgment, leadership, and collaboration with legal and underwriting teams.

Qualifications

• Reviews initial notice of claim, determines extent and validity of coverage, and screens for qualification for flow process.

Responsibilities

• Assigns work to subordinate Claims Representatives.
• Delegates settlement authority with the Claim Vice President or Unit Manager; may directly settle; refers cases beyond authority to Unit Managers.
• Supervises investigations and oversees settlement or disposition of claims to ensure prompt contact of insureds and claimants, timely investigation, and equitable settlement.
• Establishes loss reserves to reflect probable Company obligation; reviews and modifies reserves as necessary.
• May directly settle claims, depending on office size, territory, and workload. Evaluates work of subordinate Claims Reps on open cases; provides direction and counsel by identifying improvement areas.
• Initiates subrogation or recovery proceedings. Directs the activities of Claims Attorney on cases in suit. Negotiates and authorizes settlements.
• Participates in HR processes for subordinates, conducts Performance Evaluations, implements training and development; participates in salary administration and staffing of the unit as vacancies occur.
