Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a Summer Intern as Engineering Aide 2 in PWU Engineering. This full-time internship offers hands-on experience in public works, utilities, and civil projects, working with licensed Professional Engineers on traffic safety investigations, bridge repair analysis, pavement planning, and water main design updates using AutoCAD.

This program lets students apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, build professional skills, and contribute to Wichita neighborhoods.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Engineering, Construction Science, or Construction Management.
• GPA 2.0 or higher.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Performs intern-level work assigned by the department.
• Conduct on-site traffic investigations and safety assessments; translate findings into work directives.
• Assist in bridge inspection analysis and planning of repairs under Professional Engineer oversight.
• Update plan details and designs for water main projects using AutoCAD.
• Support Pavement Preservation projects with data collection and project prep.
