Job summary

Kimley-Horn’s Chicago, IL office is seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Water/Wastewater and Utilities team. This is not a remote position and requires PE licensure or progression toward it.

You will design water transmission and distribution systems, pumping stations, and treatment facilities, while coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies to ensure project success. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Experience in municipal engineering including pump stations, pipelines, and water/wastewater facilities.
• Experience with hydraulic modeling tools (WaterGEMS/SewerGEMS/InfoWater).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with potential to lead a practice and manage clients and a team.

Responsibilities

• Design water transmission and distribution systems, pumping stations, and treatment facilities.
• Manage project tasks, design, permitting, and construction coordination with guidance to junior staff.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to ensure project success.
• Review plans for quality and accuracy; mentor others.
• Develop work plans and manage budgets per client requirements.
• Attend meetings with clients and regulators to ensure compliance.
• Monitor progress, budgets, and schedules; adapt as needed.
• Foster internal and external professional relationships.
