Job Summary

Plays a key role in supervising the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects. Prepares and supervises the preparation of designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.

Examples of Duties
  • Supervise preliminary and final surveys.
  • Design and supervise the design of reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, sewers, sidewalks, highways, pipelines, playgrounds, drainage channels and other concrete, steel, and timber structures.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of specifications and estimates.
  • Assign project engineers and inspectors to construction projects and settle disputes between contractors and inspectors.
  • Prepare or supervise others in preparing construction plans.
  • Supervise construction and inspection and approve changes during construction.
  • Conduct special investigations and engineering economic studies and prepare reports.
  • Supervise collection and analysis of statistical data.
  • Assist in preparing work schedules and budget estimates.
  • Review and approve construction plans for subdivision roads submitted by private persons.
  • Supervise the preparation and maintenance of maps and records.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Combination of education and experience equivalent to a baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of professional civil engineering work experience after licensure as a registered professional engineer.

License Requirements

Valid professional civil engineer license in the State of Hawaii and valid motor vehicle operator’s license (Hawai'i Type 3 or equivalent).

Work Shift / Schedule

Monday-Friday.
