Job description

Job Title: Waterworks Inspector Aide

Location: Department of Water – Engineering

Salary: 4,054.00 USD per month

Job Summary

Under close supervision and with specific instructions, assist higher‑level inspectors by inspecting phases of waterworks construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and contractual agreements. Perform additional duties as required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Inspect, examine, and check phases of waterworks projects (e.g., pipelines, reservoirs, dams, tanks, hydrants, stand‑pipes, service connections, air/vacuum relief valves).
  • Meet with contractors, engineers, and others regarding methods, procedures, and materials for construction phases.
  • Assist contractors in interpreting plans and specifications; with approval, allow minor deviations and note deviations on plans.
  • Check lines and grades, concrete drains, sewer pipe laying, pavement materials, and ensure alignment, strength, and proper workmanship.
  • Verify clearing and grubbing of rights‑of‑way, concrete or asphalt pours, and erection of falsework, formwork, and trench bracing.
  • Inspect street trenching, backfills, pipe and fitting soundness, and conduct concrete slump tests and pipeline pressure tests.
  • Inspect manhole construction and undertake additional inspections as assigned.
  • Maintain daily logs of pipeline lengths, bends, sleeves, employee counts, and other construction metrics.
  • Prepare construction reports, record test results, and report defective materials to superiors.
  • Ensure safety practices are observed and assist with restoration of facilities, sites, and adjacent properties.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school graduation or equivalent.
  • At least one year of general work experience.
  • At least 2½ years of inspection or investigative experience enforcing laws, ordinances, or regulations.
  • Valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license (Hawaii type3 or equivalent).
  • Ability to qualify on a written examination.
Work Schedule

Monday–Friday.
