Job Title: Civil Engineer IVSalary Range: $8,061.00 - $10,015.00Position Salary: 8,061.00 USD MonthlyLocation: Department of Public Works Engineering, Department of Water – Engineering, County of Kaua'i, Hawaii

Job Summary

Performs difficult professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of civil engineering projects; prepares designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other related duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Make office and field studies of proposed projects and supervise preliminary and final surveys.
  • Establish bench marks and take cross-sections, profiles, and contours.
  • Make survey computations and prepare preliminary drawings.
  • Design reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, sewers, sidewalks, highways, and water lines; and other concrete, steel, and timber structures by computing grades and alignments, loadings and stresses, determining size, proportion, and dimensions; and supervise preparation of construction plans and drawings.
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents and cost and quantity estimates.
  • Supervise construction and inspection activities.
  • Interpret plans and specifications, changes, and correct plans.
  • Keep records of work done, materials used, and prepare monthly and final payment estimates.
  • Check plans and specifications of building and structures for compliance with the building code.
  • Review test reports and soil analysis reports.
  • Supervise and participate in hydrologic, land use, land development, economic, and other studies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in engineering and three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience.

License Requirement

Possession of a valid professional civil engineer license in the State of Hawaii and a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaiʻi Type 3 or equivalent).
