The Illinois Department of Transportation invites applications for Civil Engineer Trainee positions in Carbondale, IL. Trainees assist in layout, inspection and documentation on highway improvement projects, in a structured training program designed to develop core civil engineering skills.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited engineering degree (or graduating soon).
• Current Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate or IL PE license.
• Structural Engineer License in Illinois is acceptable.
• GPA minimum 2.0 (out of 4.0).

Responsibilities

• Layout, measurement, computation, and documentation of contract items.
• Measurement, computation, and documentation of engineering items.
• Inform supervisor of problems or deviations.
• Ensure items inspected are per specifications.
• Provide layouts/plans in a timely manner.
• Rotate to other bureaus within the district as training.
• Adhere to safety rules and observe fair treatment of staff.
