Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. in Mount Laurel, New Jersey seeks a Civil Engineer/Project Manager to support civil site plan design, storm water management, utility design, and related field and design efforts for industrial and renewable energy projects. The role includes supervising staff, developing drawings and specs, and maintaining client relationships.

Minimum qualifications include a B.S. in Civil Engineering (M.S. preferred), 5–15 years' experience, and P.E.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering; M.S. preferred.
  • 5-15 years of professional experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain license within a year.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to supervise and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and build client relationships.
  • Willingness to travel for assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Project Managers with large design projects within technical specialty.
  • Serve as a Project Manager for all sizes of Civil Engineering design projects.
  • Direct project activities of staff level engineers.
  • Mentor staff within the local office and elsewhere.
  • Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare reports.
  • Develop design drawings, specs, bid documents and schedules.
  • Develop and meet project plans, schedules and budgets.
  • Support proposals and deliver professional services across GEI offices.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships; represent GEI in communications and conferences.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required.

Job description

Overview

GEI is expanding and seeking a Civil Engineer/Project Manager to join our Mount Laurel, New Jersey office. This individual will support ongoing field and engineering design efforts related to civil site plan set design, site layout, land grading and drainage, storm water management, utility infrastructure assessment and design, slope stabilization, erosion and sediment control design, access road design, and the development and review of construction plans and specifications for industrial, large utility, and private projects across numerous business lines, including the renewable energy sector.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist Senior Project Managers with large design projects within technical specialty.
  • Serve as a Project Manager for all sizes of Civil Engineering design projects.
  • Direct project activities of staff level engineers.
  • Mentor staff within the local office and elsewhere.
  • Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda.
  • Develop design and construction drawings, technical specifications, bid documents and project schedules.
  • Develop and meet project plans, schedules and budgets.
  • Perform proposal preparation to provide professional services and strive to develop new business in areas of specialty; support other GEI offices with proposals and the delivery of professional services.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships; represent GEI in communications and conferences pertaining to areas of specialty and other assignments.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an M.S. degree preferred.
  • 5-15 years of professional experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (preferably New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania) or ability to obtain license within a year.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere with experience supervising, supporting and directing staff and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to assist with supervision and review other’s work.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and assist with their career growth.
  • Ability to assist with building strong client relationships and desire to obtain new business.
  • Willingness to travel on assignments as necessary, including field assignments.

Physical Requirements

Work is primarily sedentary with occasional lifting, climbing, walking and other physical tasks as required. The role may involve exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, extreme temperatures, and uneven surfaces. The person should be able to perform the tasks described in the role while meeting all safety and health requirements.
