Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. invites a Civil Engineer Intern to contribute to field observations and in-office projects in Grand Forks, ND. The internship blends outdoor construction phase activities with engineering support across multiple disciplines.

You'll assist with plan specs and estimates, AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, and real-time surveying using GPS and Total Station, gaining exposure to roadway design, drainage analysis, and erosion control in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Civil Engineering or related program.
• Completed surveying and AutoCAD coursework preferred.
• Able to work outdoors for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license and overnight travel availability.

Job description

A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers. Specifically, this summer will include construction observation on Columbia Road and various parking ramps in Grand Forks.

Job Description

As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist withAutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines withvarious project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform workin a variety ofsoftware such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS,etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assistwith research, development and design of projects.

We strive to provide a personalized internship based on your area of interest. This may include learning how to do roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.
