Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. offers a hands-on Civil Engineering Internship designed to mentor the next generation of engineers.

Interns will spend time in the field on outdoor construction activities and assist engineers with in-office projects. As an intern, you may help with plan specifications, AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings, and updating project drawings, while operating GPS and Total Station survey instruments.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related program.
• Completed surveying coursework and AutoCAD preferred.
• Able to work extended periods outdoors and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates and document construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines with project drawings.
• Operate GPS and Total Station survey instruments.
• Perform work in software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS.
• Potential observation and data collection at various project sites.
• Assist with research, development and design of projects.

A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers.

Job Description

As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

• Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
• Assist withAutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and updateredlines withvarious project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform workin a variety ofsoftware such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS,etc.
• Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
• Assistwith research, development and design of projects.

We strive to provide a personalized internship based on your area of interest. This may include learning how to do roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel.

The estimated rate of pay is $22-$24 per hour, depending on experience.
