Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation invites entry-level Civil Engineers to join the EDGE program, a 15–24 month rotational development track. Participants gain exposure to Location and Design, Materials, Residency Operations, Construction and more while building technical and leadership skills.

EDGE associates are prepared for placement into classified roles after completion, with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree; FE exam or EIT within 12 months.
• FE with EIT designation within 12 months of employment.
• Must be at least 18 years old at start of employment.
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance contract policies and procedures.
• Experience with roadway design or related civil engineering fields is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering data and prepare clear reports and recommendations.
• Communicate with VDOT staff, government agencies, contractors and the public.
• Demonstrate knowledge of roadway design and construction processes.
• Assist in project management, scope, schedule, budget and status reporting.
• Support residency operations, environmental and maintenance functions as needed.
• Develop and manage multiple concurrent tasks and deliverables.
