Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Indianapolis seeks a Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with 2+ years of design experience to join the Roadway team. This is not a remote role; you will work on projects for INDOT, local municipalities, and public transit agencies, contributing to alignments, drainage, and multimodal design.

You will receive on-the-job and formal training, mentorship, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions while advancing toward professional licensure.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with a civil engineering design firm
  • Bachelor's or Master's from an ABET-accredited university in Civil Engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training or Engineering Intern certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Responsibilities

  • Work on a wide range of projects with INDOT, local municipalities, and public transit agencies
  • Perform civil engineering tasks to support project managers
  • Develop horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Design grading and drainage systems
  • Roadway improvements and multimodal design, including trails and complete streets
  • Prepare signage, striping and signal plans
  • Receive on-the-job and formal training with mentorship and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions
