Job summary

City of Laredo is seeking a seasoned civil engineer to assist the City Engineer and lead the City Engineering Department. The role involves organizing and directing professional, technical, and clerical staff, overseeing public improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with city ordinances and regulations.

Responsibilities include budgeting in collaboration with the City Engineer, coordinating consultant contracts, and reviewing project payments.

Qualifications

• Manages professional, technical, and clerical staff and conducts performance appraisals.
• Prepares annual departmental budget in coordination with City Engineer.
• Reviews and recommends hiring actions and disciplinary measures.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, schedules, and assigns public improvement projects (streets, drainage, buildings, bridges, airport).
• Prepares plans and specifications up to City standards.
• Coordinates and reviews consultant contracts and project payments.
• Enforces City ordinances and regulations under City Engineer supervision.
• Assists in CIP development and grant applications.
• Provides technical advice to Planning and Zoning and other departments.
