Description

Position Overview: Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.

Essential Functions

1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and/or straight trucks.
2. Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
3. Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
4. Handle freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
6. Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
7. Complete required documentation and reports.
8. Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
9. Collect freight charges and maintain documentation.
10. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, or issues.
11. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business.
12. Demonstrate customer service skills.
13. Request additional business and provide leads for sales opportunities.
14. May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires.
15. May perform duties of a road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
16. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.

Qualifications

• Possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restriction allowed.
• One year of recent experience or successful completion of FedEx Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Meet DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of FMCSA.
• Operate Long Combination Vehicles (LCV) in specific states, meeting qualification standards.
• Basic math skills, ability to lift up to 100 pounds, and good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.

Working Conditions

• Drive in all weather and road conditions.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment.
