Job summary

The City of Coral Gables is seeking a budget/finance analyst to assist in preparing the annual budget, CIP, and related financial reports. The role involves designing performance indicators, monitoring grant revenues, and providing budgetary support to departments and staff.

You will work with the Deputy Finance Director to compile figures, create charts and graphs, and ensure accuracy across citywide planning documents.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field.
• Minimum four (4) years of budget/finance analysis experience; municipal experience preferred.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered. The requirement of a bachelor’s degree may be waived if a candidate possesses exceptional/significant experience in the budget/finance field.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Deputy Finance Director in the preparation of the annual budget estimate and adopted budget.
• Records, itemizes, reconciles, and revises budget information; summarizes and projects revenues and expenditures.
• Audits budget submissions and verifies accuracy; prepares documents, charts and graphs for inclusion in the annual budget estimate and adopted budget.
• Assists in the preparation of the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan; audits capital budget submissions and verifies accuracy.
• Responsible for reconciling, monitoring, and projecting city revenue; coordinates with Accounting and other city departments to ensure revenues are accurately recorded.
• Supports the design, monitoring, and reporting of citywide strategic plan, performance indicators and departmental work plans.
• Provides initial review of funding requests, and budget adjustments for funding availability.
• Prepares quarterly budget variance reviews for each city department; assists department staff to maintain accounts in line with budget.
• Assists in the preparation of vacancy reports and personnel costs projections.
• Assist in the review and update of budget preparation and maintenance procedures and guidelines for City departments.
• Assists in technical guidance and training to departments for budget development, funding allocations, account structure in line with budget and citywide guidelines.
• Assists the Grants Coordinator, as necessary, in the preparation of grant reimbursements, quarterly status and closeout reports.
• Assists accounting staff as necessary during the preparation of quarterly financial reports and the comprehensive annual financial report.
• Performs special projects or other related tasks as required.
