Job summary

State of Colorado’s Sterling Correctional Facility seeks an IT instructor to teach computer information systems to inmate students. You will align with CCCS standards and licensing board requirements, delivering structured CIS content and assessments.

The role requires an Associate’s in IT (or higher) with substantial IT experience, plus a teaching credential or substitution options. You’ll contribute to safety and educational outcomes within the facility.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related field of study ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in the Information Technology industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the CCCS requirements.
• There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.
• Substitution: license/certification in IT profession AND 4,000 hours experience within last seven years.
• Out-of-state applicants: Bachelor's Degree in Education-related field required for MQ when applicable.
• Must attach college transcripts noting degree and date conferred to receive college credit.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in groups to promote academic performance.
• Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids and instructional materials.
• Lecture on theories, concepts and terminology in CIS.
• Prepare reports and maintain records like grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details.
• Observe and evaluate student progress and provide feedback for improvement.
• Promote teamwork and safety within the facility by effective student management.
