Job summary

TDIndustries is seeking a Service Tech IV - HVAC lead to diagnose, service, and maintain commercial and residential HVAC systems. You will guide technicians, coordinate large projects, and ensure safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The role requires strong reading of schematics, brand controls knowledge, and a professional disposition. Responsibilities include performing inspections, repairs, and planned maintenance, while developing long-term customer relationships and documenting

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant HVAC Service experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two-year technical degree preferred.
  • Must possess required registrations, professional licenses, or certifications as required by the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of service processes, techniques, and codes is required.
  • Knowledge of brand-specific controls (Siemens, Johnson Controls, Distec).
  • Able to read complex schematics and prints.
  • Must be able to display a professional demeanor with strong communication.
  • HVAC Unitary systems up to 150+ tons and mini-split up to 3 tons; chiller and airside knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose HVAC performance through observation, testing and setup.
  • Coordinate work on large projects to meet deadlines.
  • Disassemble/reassemble equipment for troubleshooting per service agreements.
  • Operate hand/power tools and measuring equipment to diagnose and maintain HVAC systems.
  • Lead and train service technicians; provide technical support.
  • Purchase materials and issue purchase orders to suppliers.

Job Summary

The Service Tech IV - HVAC serves as a lead technician and front-line resource, offering technical support, guidance, and training to other service technicians. Responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, servicing, and planned maintenance of commercial and residential HVAC systems. Ensures system performance, efficiency, and safety while upholding company standards and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties
  • Diagnose HVAC system performance through observation, testing, and setup based on trade/position and equipment type/size:
  • Split systems up to 120 tons, mini split systems, 3 tons/multizone
  • VRV heat pump/recovery, RTUS up to 150+ tons, WSHP up to 120 tons
  • Self-contained systems, CRAC units, air/water cooled chillers
  • Air-side, AHUs, EFs, pumps, and piping
  • Coordinate work processes on large projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project specifications and deadlines.
  • Perform disassembly and reassembly of commercial and residential equipment for troubleshooting and planned maintenance per service agreements, ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Proficiently operate a range of hand tools, power tools, gauges, and measuring equipment to diagnose and maintain HVAC systems effectively.
  • Successfully complete service contracts, quoted projects, and respond to demand service calls promptly and efficiently as per company directives.
  • Develops long-term relationships with customers and explains work performed to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Communicates and documents project status to all project stakeholders.
  • Serves as a lead and front-line resource to service technicians through technical support.
  • Coordinates the work of subcontractors, and trains and provides guidance to technicians.
  • Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers.
  • Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer, follows requirements of company vehicle driving policy and adheres to all company safety requirements.
  • Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant HVAC Service experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Two-year technical degree in a related field
  • Must possess required registrations, professional licenses, or certifications as required by the position.
  • Advanced knowledge of service processes, techniques, and codes is required.
  • Knowledge of brand-specific controls (Siemens, Johnson Controls, Distec)
  • Proficient in reading complex schematics and prints
  • Able to perform as a self-managed individual
  • Must be able to display a professional demeanor, solid interpersonal skills with good written and oral communication capabilities.
  • Required:
    • HVAC Unitary skills: split system - all brands up to 120 tons, mini-split system - up to 3 tons heat pump and all brands Multi-Zone, VRV Heat Pump and VRV Heat Recovery, roof top units - all brands up to 150+ tons, water source heat pumps - all brands up to 120 tons, self-contained systems - water-cooled and air cooled with remote condenser and CRAC units - Leibert/data-aire/Stultz.
    • HVAC Chiller skills: Air-cooled chillers - Scroll/reciprocating, Screw, Screw with VFD and Magnetic. Water Cooled Chiller - Scroll/reciprocating, Screw, Variable Speed Screw and Magnetic. Centrifugal Chiller Theory.
    • Airside skills: Fan Powered Box, VAV Box, VFD Theory. Air Handler: Theory of AHU operation and Theory of control valve operation. Exhaust fans: Centrifugal Up blast Roof Fans, Centrifugal Inline Fan and Vane Axial High Pressure Fans.
    • Pumps and Piping Systems skills: Pumps -- ability to identify all components, pump configurations and chiller configurations. Flow Control - automatic/circuit setter. Piping - strainers and back-flow devices.
