Job summary

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services seeks a Conservatorship Worker I to manage cases after children enter CPS conservatorship. You will assess child needs, coordinate services, and work with families to pursue permanent, safe permanency.

Role includes court testimony, home visits, and collaboration with kinship providers, foster families, and legal partners to support child welfare goals.

Qualifications

• Requires accredited Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Alternative: 2 years relevant work with Associate's degree.
• 60 credits with 2 years experience in social/human/protective services.
• 90 credits with 1 year experience in social/human/protective services.
• Preferred: Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Education, or Public Health.

Responsibilities

• Receives cases from investigators after children are removed from their homes and placed in CPS conservatorship.
• Determines each child’s needs and ensures referrals for testing, evaluations, records, or further assessments.
• Plans for a child's permanency with families and kinship providers.
• Identifies kinship providers and completes home studies.
• Attends court hearings, prepares reports, and testifies on the child’s needs and permanency efforts.
• Maintains case records and documents; collaborates with attorneys, law enforcement, and other professionals.
