Job summary

The Jackson County, Missouri Family Support department is seeking a dedicated investigator to perform specialized child support work, establish orders, and pursue enforcement actions to collect payments on existing orders.

You will interview custodial and non-custodial parents, employers and agency staff, gather evidence, and analyze it to negotiate or set support obligations, while meeting Missouri Notary and background check requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of work related experience including child support enforcement, insurance claims, credit or other financial resource investigation, or related activities.
• Notary Public qualification in Missouri is required.
• Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
• Post-offer drug screen and background check are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized investigative and child support work.
• Establish orders and initiate/enforce enforcement leading to payment collection.
• Manage a specific caseload from initiation to emancipation.
• Interview custodial/non-custodial parents, employers, agency staff and the public.
• Gather and analyze evidence to facilitate setting of support obligations.

Job Duties:

• Responsible for performing specialized investigative and child support work.

• Responsible for the establishment of orders, initiation and follow-through of enforcement activities leading to the collection of payments on existing orders.

• Responsible for the specific caseload from the initiation of required activities, until children reach the legal age of emancipation.

• Interviews the custodial parent, non-custodial parent, employers, other agency staff and the public at large.

• Gathers supporting evidence, to be analyzed and verified, which will facilitate the negotiation or setting of a support obligation.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a High School Diploma or its equivalent
• Two years of work related experience, which includes child support enforcement, insurance claims, credit or other financial resource investigation, experience in activities related to the practice of law or its enforcement, and/or the administration of justice
• Associate may be required to attend and successfully complete two weeks of training outside of the Kansas City area.
• Must pass skills assessment test, administered by the department during applicant interview.
• Must meet qualifications to serve as Notary Public in the State of Missouri.
• Must possess/maintain valid Missouri Driver’s License.
• Must submit to pass post offer drug screen/background check. BARGAINING UNIT POSITION.
