Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring a Child Protective Services Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to join the Child Welfare team in Roseburg, OR. This role focuses on engaging with children and families to ensure safety and well-being, conducting safety assessments through an equitable lens, and coordinating services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field or equivalent combination as allowed by Oregon criteria.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience with diverse populations and trauma-informed practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to referrals, interviewing children, families and contacts.
• Observe home environments, conduct child safety assessments, and determine abuse or neglect with protective action.
• Develop service plans to meet the needs of children and families.
• Arrange medical evaluations, placements, and connect families with services and resources.
• Create reports, safety plans, assessment evaluations, case notes, testify in court, and communicate with diverse populations.
