Job summary

You will work under the Child Nutrition Program Manager to ensure nutritious meals are delivered in a timely manner. Ideal candidates possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid food handler certification, and a background check.

Qualifications

• Jefferson County Department of Health food handler certification is required.
• A valid background check is required.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be required by law or Empower Community School.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
• Food preparation: follows daily menu, recipes, and preparation schedules; prepares assigned dishes.
• Food storage: ensures proper temperatures and FIFO procedures; maintains records of food taken from storage.
• Serving line: serves students and staff with a friendly manner and accurate portions.

REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Program Manager or designee

JOB GOAL: To serve students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
2. Food preparation
   • Knows daily menu requirements
   • Follows daily food preparation schedule
   • Follows recipes
   • Knows when to begin food preparation
   • Knows how to store prepared food before serving
   • Prepares assigned dishes
3. Food storage
   • Assures that food is stored at appropriate temperatures
   • Maintains a first in/first out (FIFO) procedure for moving food from storage
   • Maintains a record of food taken from storage
4. Serving line
   • Serves students and staff in a friendly manner
   • Serves prescribed portions to all customers
   • Serves a neat and attractive tray
