Job summary

Rising Ground in New York City seeks a dedicated Residential Counselor to supervise youth in residential settings and provide a supportive, structured environment. You will apply trauma-informed care, assist with daily living activities, and support therapeutic programs to promote safety and well-being.

This is a full-time, in-person role in New York City/area facilities. Availability for afternoon/evening shifts (e.g., 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am) is required, with occasional flexibility and

  • High School Degree/GED.
  • Valid driver’s license in tri-state area with a safe driving record.
  • Experience in a Residential Treatment Center working with adolescents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous supervision of youth in residential and community settings to ensure health, safety, and well-being.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care, behavior management, and crisis intervention techniques to support residents.
  • Document critical incidents, communicate resident concerns, complete required reports, and collaborate with clinical, medical, and program staff.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and hazard-free living environment by conducting routine inspections and reporting safety concerns.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including personal care, life skills, household responsibilities, and healthy routines.
  • Plan, supervise, and participate in recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities, including transporting residents in agency vehicles when authorized.
  • Implement PBIS while modeling the agency’s core values of Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Positive Behavior.

Overview

Provides for the basic needs, health and safety of residents. Supports youth during their placement within the centers by fostering a nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous supervision of youth in residential and community settings to ensure their health, safety, and well-being.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care (TCI), behavior management, and crisis intervention techniques to support residents and respond effectively to challenging situations.
  • Document critical incidents, communicate resident concerns, complete required reports, and collaborate with clinical, medical, and program staff.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and hazard-free living environment by conducting routine inspections and reporting safety concerns.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including personal care, life skills, household responsibilities, and healthy routines.
  • Plan, supervise, and participate in recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities, including transporting residents in agency vehicles when authorized.
  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) while modeling the agency's core values of Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Positive Behavior.
  • Build supportive relationships with residents, address individual needs, and refer concerns to appropriate program staff while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, appropriate conduct, adherence to agency policies, participation in treatment teams, and responsible stewardship of agency resources.
  • Participate in required training and professional development while supporting the agency's mission, values, and commitment to high-quality resident
