Mt. Laurel Preschool Education Center - Commerce Parkway, Mount Laurel, NJ

Under the direction of the Childcare Director, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food to high standards, ensuring efficient food service, presentation, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

Minimum requirements:

• At least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent; culinary certification preferred
• 1-2 years experience in volume cooking, dietary restrictions, banquets, safe food handling, food prep, cost control, waste management
• Serve-Safe Certification preferred

Responsibilities:

• Adhere to YMCA Policies, State Licensing Regulations (PA DHS / NJ NJ OOL), and Quality Rating System standards (e.g., NAEYC, Keystone STARS, Grow NJ Kids)
• Ensure high standards of food preparation, service, presentation, and cleanliness
• Operate all equipment correctly
• Create and distribute weekly menus and maintain recipe files
• Manage food and supply inventories; order weekly
• Receive and check weekly orders; store items properly
• Follow CACFP guidelines
• Prepare for the next day’s service
• Maintain a clean work station
• Control food storage quality and quantities, rotate stock, and minimize waste
• Meet dietary requirements and safety standards
• Follow public health, fire, safety, and emergency procedures
• Stay informed of policies, risk management, safety practices, and laws
