Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an Engineer 9 to serve as the Traffic and Safety Director. This senior leadership role acts as the department's top authority for traffic engineering, highway safety, ITS, and TSMO across multiple programs.

The position will establish standards, governance frameworks, and performance expectations to advance roadway safety, system reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Current Louisiana professional engineering license required.
• Ability to supervise and lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Provides statewide leadership and strategic direction for traffic engineering, safety, ITS, and TSMO programs.
• Aligns standards and programs with Department priorities, federal requirements, and directives.
• Advances reductions in fatalities and serious injuries and improves roadway safety and reliability.
• Leads collaboration with executive leadership, divisions, districts, maintenance, and project delivery.
• Establishes governance and performance frameworks for standards, ITS, safety countermeasures, and federal reporting.
• Oversees budgets and financial management for HSIP, traffic engineering, ITS, and safety programs.
