Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an Engineer 9,Traffic and Safety Director, to lead statewide traffic engineering and highway safety efforts across ITS, modeling, and TSMO. The role defines standards, governance, and performance expectations to advance roadway safety and regulatory compliance.

The position requires a current Louisiana PE license and supervisory experience, with a potential for advanced degree substitutions per policy.

Qualifications

Current Louisiana professional engineer license with at least two years in a supervisory role.
Experience in traffic engineering, ITS, and safety programs is required.
Master's/Doctorate can substitute for professional experience per policy, but license cannot be substituted.

Responsibilities

Provide statewide leadership and strategic direction for traffic engineering, safety, ITS, and TSMO programs.
Align standards and strategies with Department priorities and federal requirements.
Drive measurable reductions in fatalities and serious injuries and improve roadway safety and reliability.
Lead cross-functional collaboration with executive leadership, divisions, districts, and stakeholders.
Establish governance and performance frameworks for engineering standards, ITS, safety countermeasures, and federal reporting.
Oversee budgets and financial management for HSIP, ITS, modeling, and countermeasures.
