Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced Traffic Engineer to serve as the Traffic expert while supervising lower-level Engineers or Engineering Technicians. This role supports transportation projects across Louisiana through design, review, and improvement of traffic control devices, signals, signing, and roadway geometry.

A Professional license to practice engineering is required — training is provided with opportunities for career advancement.

Qualifications

Current Louisiana Professional Engineer license required.
Two years of licensed engineering experience; or six years of professional engineering experience.
Licensing substitutions: master’s substitutes for one year; doctorate substitutes for two years; advanced degrees max two years; no substitution for licensed experience.

Responsibilities

Supervises lower-level engineers, interns, technicians and staff.
Assigns work, sets priorities and deadlines, monitors progress and reviews for quality and compliance.
Conducts studies and retimes state signals for optimum efficiency.
Determines Transportation Management Plan level for projects within District.
Designs and submits signal plans for construction projects.
Reviews engineering plans, specifications, estimates, reports, calculations, studies.
Guides traffic control devices, access connections, traffic signals, pavement markings, work zones and policies.
