Job description

Job Description Summary Join Hunt Electric at one of the most significant moments in our company's history. As we continue our transition to a holding company structure, expand our manufacturing capabilities, pursue strategic acquisitions, and deepen our presence in several construction markets, we are seeking a Chief Strategy Officer to build the enterprise growth engine that will shape Hunt's next generation. As the Chief Strategy Officer of Hunt Electric, you will lead the growth functions that build Hunt’s future. You will set market and customer direction, guide business development, estimating, marketing, strategic planning, and build a healthy future backlog that matches Hunt’s capabilities and long-term objectives.

The CSO works in close partnership with the President to ensure every growth decision reflects Hunt's operational capacity, leadership capability, and long-term strategic direction. Together, these roles balance future opportunities with execution excellence. Working closely with the CEO, President, and operating leaders, you will help Hunt pursue the right work, build the next generation of leaders, and create lasting opportunity for employee-owners. This role sits on Hunt's executive leadership team and is expected to contribute well beyond growth strategy by helping shape enterprise direction, leadership development, and long-term organizational capability. We are looking for someone with experience leading growth strategy within construction, industrial services, engineering, manufacturing, mission-critical infrastructure, or similarly complex B2B organizations where execution capability is central to business success. At Hunt, how we lead matters as much as what we accomplish.

Every executive is expected to model our leadership competencies by developing others, communicating with clarity, delivering results, empowering teams, and leading with integrity.

Role & Responsibilities

Lead Hunt’s growth strategy by defining target markets, geographies, customer profiles, and vertical priorities that align with Hunt’s long-term direction, capabilities, and culture.

Lead the business development, estimating, marketing, strategic pursuits, and market intelligence functions.

Develop and maintain Hunt’s strategic business plan for growth functions, including the annual operating plan, multi-year growth plan, quarterly updates, measurable priorities, and accountable deliverables. This requires close work with the President to develop this plan.

Build and maintain strategic account plans for priority customers and sectors, including executive relationships, relationship maps, planned touchpoints, and future opportunities.

Own the market and customer strategy that guides what work Hunt pursues, who Hunt serves, where Hunt chooses not to compete, and new potential markets to consider.

Set and maintain pursuit qualification standards, market selection discipline, and go/no-go expectations so Hunt pursues work it can execute at a high level.

Work in a standing operating cadence with the President to review capacity, labor availability, leadership bandwidth, delivery risk, backlog quality, and pursuit priorities before Hunt makes commitments. Escalate unresolved conflicts between growth priorities and delivery capacity to the CEO with clear options, tradeoffs, and recommendations.

Lead estimating standards, bid review discipline, scope clarity, assumption control, win/loss learning, and estimate accuracy improvement.

Lead marketing and positioning priorities that support strategic pursuits, recruiting visibility, customer trust, and protection of the Hunt reputation.

Maintain current market intelligence on customers, competitors, industry conditions, emerging opportunities, and risks that may affect Hunt’s future work.

Maintain Hunt’s “How Hunt Wins” market doctrine with the CEO and President, including target markets, target customer profiles, no-chase conditions, delivery posture, and priority growth opportunities.

Help manage a balanced backlog by monitoring customer concentration, market mix, delivery complexity, commercial risk, capacity fit, and margin quality.

Maintain working relationships with ECSI and EH Manufacturing when integrated solutions, modularization, or prefabrication improve the outcome for Hunt customers.

Lead clean handoff of awarded work from the growth functions to project delivery and operations. Confirm that key pursuit assumptions, risks, capacity requirements, and customer commitments are documented and understood.

Develop the leaders within business development, estimating, and marketing. Identify next-generation talent, create development opportunities, and build succession depth across the growth organization.

Model Hunt’s Core Purpose, Connecting People with Opportunity, and Core Values: Honor Commitments, Set the Pace, Find a Way, and Better Together.

Make decisions with a long-term employee-owner mindset. Pursue growth that strengthens Hunt, creates meaningful opportunity, and protects the ESOP for future generations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, finance, marketing, or a related field; equivalent executive leadership experience will be considered.

Executive leadership experience in strategy, business development, estimating, growth, marketing, or a related commercial leadership function.

Construction or adjacent industry experience; ability to understand delivery constraints and labor realities.

Demonstrated ability to develop market strategy, customer strategy, growth plans, and disciplined pursuit processes.

Key Skills and Competencies

Business Acumen: Demonstrates strong financial, commercial, and operational judgment to evaluate market opportunities, customer relationships, backlog quality, delivery capacity, margin potential, and risk. Makes disciplined growth decisions that align with Hunt’s capabilities, long-term objectives, and employee-owner mindset.

Learning Approach: Maintains curiosity and continuously learns from customers, competitors, industry conditions, emerging markets, estimating outcomes, and win/loss results.

Uses market intelligence and feedback to improve pursuit strategies, estimate accuracy, strategic planning, and the overall effectiveness of the growth organization.

Strategic Thinking and Vision: Establishes a clear long‑term direction for Hunt’s growth by defining priority markets, geographies, customer profiles, sectors, and opportunities.

Translates that vision into practical business plans, strategic account plans, measurable priorities, and disciplined pursuit decisions that strengthen Hunt’s future backlog.

Influence Without Authority: Builds productive, trusted partnerships with the CEO, President, operating leaders, project delivery teams, and affiliated organizations to align growth priorities with capacity, labor availability, leadership bandwidth, and delivery realities.

Communicates clear options, tradeoffs, and recommendations when competing priorities require executive-level decisions.

Highly Altruistic / People First: Acts as a multiplier who views leadership as stewardship, prioritizing the development of the next generation of leaders over personal title or corporate administration.

Guided by the core purpose of Connecting People with Opportunity, this leader has the humility to mentor others and the wisdom to make disciplined decisions that protect the ESOP and the livelihoods of employee-owners for the next seven generations.

Adaptability and Agility: Responds effectively to changing market conditions, customer needs, industry risks, capacity constraints, and new growth opportunities.

Adjusts plans, pursuit priorities, positioning, and resource allocation as needed while maintaining disciplined standards and a consistent focus on long-term success.

Physical Requirements

Job-site conditions may include moving mechanical parts, vibration, noise, and the use of personal protective equipment, including closed‑toe shoes, a hard hat, and eye protection. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, and photocopiers. This position is generally sedentary. Employees are frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to kneel, reach, stoop, crouch or crawl. This position requires the ability to lift files, open file cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. This position may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Operates in a demanding, fast‑paced, people‑oriented construction environment with frequent changes and interruptions, and multiple project assignments.
